I have checked this behavior and can confirm that the posts are not showing up when they are in the trash. If this happens on your website I am assuming that there is a third party plugin or the theme itself which may change the query.
Please disable all other plugins and check if this still happens. If so, please switch ot a WordPress standard theme (I do my tests with TwentyTwenty and TwentyTwentyOne).
If this does not happen anymore, please activate theme and plugin one by one to find out where the issues comes from.
