A custom post type is available if it has at least one hierarchical taxonomy with one term parent and one term child.
OK, that’s the problem. My custom post type has a taxonomy called manufacturers. There are 50 of these, but they are not related, so there are no parents and children. Any way around that?

‘Manufacturers’ must be hierarchical to be used with Multiple Term Selection Widget. Maybe you need a developer.
Hi,
In my case, creating a hierarchy for my taxonomy would be a false hierarchy. My manufacturers are people like Audi, BMW, Citroen, Ford etc. There’s no relationship between them.
I guess, I could create a parent of something like German Manufacturers, French Manufacturers etc, but I don’t want to do that.
Thanks for your help.

Create a parent term ‘Manufacturer’ and change all other terms as child terms of this parent.
Sorry, got home and tried it on my dev system. Created a hierarchy as you suggested and it recognised my custom post types, but search doesnt work for me. I have a number of taxonomies for each custom post type. Perhaps it works if there’s only one?
Anyway, although this isn’t free and the author is awol, it worked for me. http://codecanyon.net/item/taxonomies-filter-widget/4282257.
I do appreciate your help though.
Many thanks, Jim
