current date custom format PHP help

Hello,

I’m trying to format the date which this function returns:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_lastpostdate

so that is reads DD/MM/YYYY

It doesn’t appear that there is format control built into the function; can anyone point me in the right direction?
