Creating template tag for widgets

Is is possible to create a template tag for calling widgets in your theme?

At the moment, some plugins work with widgets which you have to add to your sidebar or another widgetarea…

So if I want to use an widget on another place than my current sidebar or other widgetarea, I have to make another widgetarea in functions.php … and embed that widgetarea at that “other” place, which quite frustrates me…

I was wondering, is there any way for calling widgets/plugins by template tags (considering the fact that a plugin does not provide the functionality of template tags)?
