• Is there a way to customize the text that will appear in other blogs’ comments when I link to their posts? The automatic results have been less than pretty. — Thank you.

  • no..not really. Fortunately, the control of a site’s display rests with the site owner. (what you might find “less than pretty” they might love) You control yours, they control theirs — thats kinda the way it works.

    I’m sorry. I don’t think I described this clearly.

Earlier I wrote a post on my blog in which I linked to a post on another person’s blog. My installation of WordPress auto-generated a comment that it then posted to the other person’s blog post, the one I linked to. The comment on the other person’s blog reads:

[…] Getting results by selecting and marketing to specific niches. These icons link to social bookmarking sites where readers can share and discover new web pages. […]

This excerpt from my blog post is incoherent by itself and makes for an unprofessional looking comment from me on the other person’s blog.

So I am looking to control the text that is generated by my blog in the same manner that I would compose and post a comment onto the other person’s blog were I doing so directly or manually.

what, exactly are you looking to control? the entire of point of a pingback (which is what you sent) OR a trackback is to send a snippit of your text. Thats how it works.

And you were as clear as lake Tahoe in your first post, as was I in my reply.

Yes, but is there a way to rewrite the snippet before it is sent?

    SEOCritique –

I don’t think you can rewrite it before it goes, no. Other than to consider what’s actually going to be sent (first however many words of the post or however it works) so you’d be meticulous with that portion of the post – I don’t know how else you’d do it….
