Create new user from a php file? | WordPress.org

Hi everyone

I need to collect *only* an email address from an individual and from that information create for them a wordpress user.

This is for a client who wants to collect email addresses easily, but without asking the users to go through the wordpress signup process.

This will be in a php file not involved with wordpress, so I am not able to use any widgets unfortunately. I found quickregister, but like i mentioned, i can’t use it because this process doesn’t take place inside a wordpress page or post.

Does anyone know of any php code for inserting a user into the wordpress user database?

Try looking at the User and Author Functions on http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference. That might give you some starting points.

Which is great, but what do i need to add to my static php file in order to make use of that code? Right now, i have a php file named email.php – not involved with wordpress in any way – that looks like this:
```
Email address:<br />
<form name="emailform" method="POST" action="email.php">
	<input type="text" name="email">
	<input type="submit" value="submit">
</form>
```
It is submitting to itself. What code do I place in the top of the page to make it able to make use of the wp_create_user function?

I’ve not tried anything of this nature myself but I think you’ll need to start by setting up the header:
