Corporate Site Layout

I’m using the Corporate Site layout. So I’ve set that up — but what I’m not getting is, why do I have to choose: Excerpt Display 1, or 2 etc after making the Corporate Site layout selection?

I don’t want to show blog posts on my Home Page — how do i make that possible?

Also, if I don’t use the slider on my Home Page, how do I configure the page? When I tried to set it as a static page, I’m not allowed to select “Front page” — Instead it defaults to sample page. Appreciate some guidance as I’m kinda stuck. Thanks in advance.
