Connection Issues
-
After upgrading to 4.1.9 I am having issues with other plugins connecting to servers. JetPack could not resolve the wordpress.org domain as well as the WP news feed could not resolve. Disabling this plug-in fixes the issues.
Let me know any other information you need. I am a PHP Developer but just don’t have the time to debug this script at the moment.
Thanks,
Rick

Hi Dan, I’m afraid mine is still not working. I had another issue fixed with Hostgator and Optmize Press plug in, so I was hopeful that perhaps it might’ve been linked, but I get the same errors as before when I try to ‘add new plugin’.
Thanks for the update, penofjen.
If that’s the case, I’ll keep trying to get in contact with enough knowledge at HG to be helpful in this matter. I tried over the weekend and they hung up on me π

I’ve found HG to be quite varied in their support, they used to be fab but has gone downhill past year or so. I’ve been thinking of switching hosts because of it.
Anyway, if it’s just me, don’t stress too much, I don’t use DG much on my site and I can probably work round it. I can always revert to the older version as you suggested.
I have the same issues persisting here still. Hostgator is great and I would really appreciate if you could fix.
All,
Just following up on this. I finally got through to HG after about 3 hrs combined waiting on a real person. They have now opened a ticket to investigate the issue.
Once I hear more I’ll post any updates I get.

HI thanks dan, wanted to see how this is going… also do you have the version of DG in zip from before you changed the GUI in posts? I don’t like the newer one at all that shows the thumbnail in the post, it never loads properly and the shortcodes were easier to deal with.
Hi Philip,
No word yet. I’ll try and get in touch with HG again today and see if they have any update.
Regarding the visual editor, if you want more fine grained control over DG you just need to switch to the plain text editor (top right of your editor). I definitely do not recommend downgrading for that reason. But, if you want to downgrade ZIPs for all releases are available on GitHub here: https://github.com/thenadz/document-gallery/releases.

All,
If any of you (or even better all of you) could open a ticket with HostGator that would really help move the process along. I’m getting stonewalled since I don’t have an account with them.
If you point them to this thread they should be able to collect the information they need. I just got this comment from a chat with them, which is likely what you’ll want to ask them to do:
We will check to see if the plugin is hitting any of our configuration restrictions and report that information back to our customers. If one of our customers is causing you stress about the plugin and hasn’t gone through this process with us, I would recommend sending them our way to see if we can figure out what’s being prevented and what needs to be allowed to function.
If any of you get in contact with HG, if you could let me know any information collected that would be useful.

All,
Actually, before anyone does the above, can someone please test a theory for me? I managed to get my hands on a malfunctioning system with the same symptoms observed in this thread and was able to narrow the issue down to the IMagick thumbnail generation in that instance.
If you go to
Dashboard -> Settings -> Document Gallery, uncheck the IMagick checkbox near the bottom, then save, do the issues go away? I still don’t have a fix for it that doesn’t involve disabling IMagick conversions, but at least that is something for an interim resolution.-Dan
Mostly Fixed the issue for me π I can now update plugins and there are less wordpress server issues, the only error I get in my dashboard now is for WordPress RSS news.
Fantastic! What server errors are you still getting?
-Dan
RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: Couldn’t resolve host ‘wordpress.org’
RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: Couldn’t resolve host ‘planet.wordpress.org’I am still getting this error after disabling your plugin. However, I’m pretty sure this error only showed up when the update started causing other issues on my site. Not positive, may need someone else to verify.
Thanks for the additional info, Philip!
