Common Image Location/Directory

Hi,

Is there a common location/directory that WordPress 3.0.1 uses where I can place images A.gif, B.gif and C.gif so that I can access these images from any page in my site, so that if I update image A.gif with a new image but keep the same name, I want this new image with the same name appearing where I make a reference to image A.gif.
