Comment Spam

I am getting spammed crazy on my comments which is cluttering up my inbox with notifications. I have “allow people to post comments on the article” unchecked. I thought this was suppose to prevent comments.

Can someone tell me how to prevent comments on my blog and also how to prevent notification to my e-mail.
