• I’m running WP 1.5 on my blog (www.akakestrel.com/muse) but for some reason the comments have stopped working. I was on hiatus for about 5 months and prior to that was receiving emails whenever someone commented, but since I started posting again – nada. I haven’t made any changes to the version of WP. I’ve tried using different emails but that doesnt make a difference either.

Any suggestions? I’d really appreciate your help!

  • Back when Version 1.5 was released there were people who had problems with comment email notification so see this:

Also I would recommend you update to the latest version 1.5.2. See: Upgrading_WordPress

Just another note, comment email is sent to the email address of the Author of the post. Also, make sure you do have admin Options, Discussion, Email me whenever “Anyone posts a comment.” See Discussion_Options.

And finally, some hosts (like yahoo) require that the From: email address must be within your domain.

Thanks for your reply MichaelH, I appreciate your taking the time. 🙂 I updated to 1.5.2 but the email notification still isn’t working. I know this isn’t a problem with my server because 1) the email was working before my hiatus and 2) it’s working on my other blogs. Also, I checked my Discussion options and they are all correct. Is there anything else I can do?

You checked the email address of the author of the post that is being commented on? This is under the Users, Authors&Users tab.

Comments aren’t held for moderation are they? If so notification won’t happen until approved by moderator.

I double checked the email address and it’s correct. It’s a gmail account and works perfectly if someone emails me directly. Also, comments aren’t being held for moderation they go straight through to the site.

    Sounds like you checked everything.

    Other options:
    1. Change the email address of the author of the post and then leave a new comment.
    2. When leaving a comment, in the From: field, use an email address in your domain.

    And if nothing there then…
Who’s your host? What Operating System? Any log files that can be checked for failed emails?

    Hi:
I am using wp 2. I encounter similar situation. Worse than this is that I even coundn’t receive post notification, contact form emails, and registration PW delivery. Can someoone help? Thanks!!

I came across this same issue and fixed it. I’m hosting my wp blog with Yahoo so the solution might not solve everyone else’s problem. I hope so…give it a shot!
