comment moderation problems

I’m currently having a small troll problem – nothing serious, just someone who feels the need to repeatedly tell me that my blog is boring and ugly.
This person always uses the same [fake] email address. So I added the email address to my spam words list, thinking that the comments would go to moderation and I could deal with them from there.
Checked my email this morning and there were 3 ‘please approve’ emails from the troll. However, when I checked my blog the comments had been published anyway, which I thought was a little odd. They’re still listed as pending moderation
Any ideas how to sort this out? I’m using 1.2.2 if that’s any help
