collapsible sidebar menu

hi, I’m working on a project that need a dropdown menu but client seems to prefer a sidebar menu. I would like to know how to get a sidebar menu that is collapsed by default and when you click on a menu item with children, it expands. any assistance will be appreciated. thanks.
