• Hello there,

I am one of the many that has limited web design skills and an even more limited budget ha. At the present moment, I am in the struggling process of trying to put a website together. I have been told the CMS are the way to go for me, but after months of research I can say I am just as confused as ever.

I am writing hoping that you can help shed some light on if a CMS is what I need for my intended site.

I want a site like openrice.com / amazon.com a review site. Can I effectively do this with a CMS? I read your article of comparing CMS. So is what I want too ambitious for a CMS, and I should just hire a web designer?

I have heard the WordPress is super easy to use, but it’s also best saved for blogging, though I have seen a review plug-ins too

Thank you for taking the time to read and reply.

    : D

  • WordPress is indeed easy to use and is not only for blogging BUT that said if you are inexperinced and really need a tailored website (and cant find any ‘out of the box’ themes that suit your purpose) You’ll probably be best going with an expert – http://jobs.wordpress.net/ or http://www.freelancer.com/

Amazon.com uses a CMS so you can most certainly achieve what you require with a CMS. The question really relates to your technical skills not the softwares capabilities – possibilities these days are almost endless.. skills on the other hand is not.. : )

You can find some good themes here – http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2010/08/19/100-free-high-quality-wordpress-themes-for-2010/

Bear in mind WordPress seems to be moving more towards being more of a CMS, so future editions will no doubt cater for CMS more and more

Thank you greenpop for your detailed and insightful reply. It’s replies like these that make forums so great.

So basically, the CMS are all good. I just need the right person for the job. I think I’ve got it.

Have you had much experience working with web designers?

    Thank you once again 🙂
