    Hi,

I’ve been using BPS for awhile now without issues as far as I know, but a client of mine just informed me that he is unable to see his site at all if he tries to access it from mobile. I tried turning off BPS entirely and revert to an earlier .htaccess file and that seemed to do the trick, but of course I don’t want to leave the site unsecure.

Any idea why this is happening? I’m guessing his IP block is flagged for some reason? Any idea how to grant him (and those in his area) access to his website? It’s a local business, so important that others can reach it.

Here is the one error from the log file. There are more of the same, but with a dynamically changing IP of course:

    [403 GET Request: August 29, 2016 – 1:33 pm]
Event Code: BFHS – Blocked/Forbidden Hacker or Spammer
    Solution: N/A – Hacker/Spammer Blocked/Forbidden
    REMOTE_ADDR: 166.137.244.92
    Host Name: mobile-166-137-244-092.mycingular.net
    SERVER_PROTOCOL: HTTP/1.1
    HTTP_CLIENT_IP:
    HTTP_FORWARDED:
    HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR:
    HTTP_X_CLUSTER_CLIENT_IP:
    REQUEST_METHOD: GET
    HTTP_REFERER:
    REQUEST_URI: /

Thanks for any help you can give!
    Matthew

I don’t see anything in the Security Log entry that you posted that BPS standard htaccess code/files would block. Have you added any additional custom code to BPS Custom Code? Are you using any other plugins that create htaccess code?

BPS logs all 403 errors whether or not the 403 error is related to BPS or not. See the BPS Troubleshooting steps here and in your case specifically look at the Custom Code Note: http://forum.ait-pro.com/forums/topic/read-me-first-free/#bps-free-general-troubleshooting What I suspect is that you have added some additional htaccess code to BPS Custom Code this is causing the block.

    Thanks for your quick reply!

Unfortunately I don’t have access to the device the client is using, so troubleshooting is a PITA.

The site is running in the directory of another site along with several other sites. I guess it’s setup as a subdomain by my host.

    public_html > site 1 > site 2, site 3, site 4

site 1 also has BPS installed (I think they all do).

I don’t think there is any custom code, but I just reset everything to default .htaccess and I’m waiting to find out.

In the meantime, do I need to have BPS installed on all the sites, or just site 1? I know the .htaccess probably affects all sites, but pretty sure the other benefits of BPS won’t carry over.

    Thanks!

Yep, BPS should be installed on each site. The best site architecture/structure is compartmentalized security per site: http://forum.ait-pro.com/forums/topic/htaccess-files-for-multiple-website-domains/

Did you get any feedback|info regarding this?

I did – thanks for reopening the topic.

It turned out that my host had done some IP blocking or something behind the scenes that was causing the problems, so all is good with BPS!

Everything seems to be fixed now and secure with the plugin. 🙂

    Thanks!

Great! Glad to hear the problem is resolved. On a personal note: I am having some issues with adjusting to the new WP forum look|feel. 😉 I love the overall bbPress style|look, but my techniques that I used with the old format|style do not really work with the new WP forum. Had kind of an “at a glance” system going on before and now it looks like the better approach is going to be shifting to relying on email responses. The only drawback for that method is older topics may get forgotten. ie this one. LOL Will take a little getting used to.

No worries. You’ve been a great help and I appreciate it immensely! Thanks!

It drives me nuts that I can’t search in a specific plugin for a string. Other than that the BB seems pretty great.
