• I have installed WP and its working great, but I want to edit the files from the “template” page within wp. I have found that adding “modify” to the anonymous internet user will allow me to do this, but i’m afraid this causes a security risk, is that right and if so, what is a better way to do it? (I run my own web server so i have full control over it)

  • The best way to do it is to switch it over to Linux!!

Any emreal/em solution to this? I have the exact same problem.

Running WP 1.5.1 on a Windows 2003 server.

MattRead: Not all of us have that luxury. My personal installs are all *nix, but a client I am working with right now has Server 2003/IIS6 and is VERY unhappy with the problems (one of which is CHMOD/Win permissions) he’s having with WordPress so far. 🙁

Does anyone have any useful tips/hints for Win users? I’m searching the wp archives now, and finding little help.

A less drastic recommendation would be to switch to an Apache-based server environment, like XAMPP. Is there any particular reason for why you need IIS?

My client needs it for his proprietary web applications. 😛

Trust me, I would love nothing better than to move to apache, or better yet OFF of windows! But it’s not my call to make.
