I’m trying to allow a blog post to fit under two categories of the same name, but in different categorytrees. One is listed as Serve > Children Grades 1-5 and the other is listed as Grow > Church > Children Grades 1-5

HOWEVER, when I select them both in the post and click update, they jump out of their corresponding trees and thus break a category listing plugin I have on their corresponding pages. Here’s are two screenshots to explain this better:

    Can anyone help?

The “jumping out” is only in the display on the post edit page. They are not in reality jumping out of the hierarchy. WP just puts the categories a post is assigned to at the top of the list so they can be easily seen. It doesn’t mean the category hierarchy has changed behind the scenes.

When you have two categories with the same displayed name each has a different category slug assigned behind the scenes. In WordPress a category can only have one parent. When two categories have the same displayed name it is easy to get confused on which one you are working with.

Ah that makes sense. The issue it was causing was related to the plugin instead. Thanks for helping me understand this part so I could narrow that down!
