    Hello there,

Got a weird one for ya.

Some customers are experiencing this generic error message when they try to checkout only in Safari (both Mac and iPhone): “An error occurred, please try again or try an alternate form of payment”

There is nothing in the Square logs that show any failure and no order is created in WooCommerce. I traced the error message back to the woocommerce-square plugin but I haven’t been able to tell what the actual error is.

A colleague is able to replicate the issue but only when using Safari not in private mode. The checkout works perfectly fine in private (incognito) mode. I have not been able to replicate the issue at all.

What other methods can I use to try and diagnose the issue? I know I can disable plugins and themes to test, but I am unable to replicate the issue so I’m kind of at a crossroads.

Is there anything specific that would throw that particular error?

    Hey there @mtycks,

    That’s indeed very weird!

The best thing to do here would be to rule out a conflict. I’d start by setting up a staging site, then having your colleague (who can reproduce the problem) perform those same tests on the staging site. Then disable all of the plugins except for WooCommerce and Square, switch the theme to Twenty Seventeen and then have them to do the same tests. You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.

Please do let us know how that goes!

I haven’t heard of anything like this before – it’s so oddly specific.
