I’ve been trying to rephrase the blurb that appears with the login form on checkout: “If you have shopped with us before, please enter your details in the boxes below. If you are a new customer, please proceed to the Billing & Shipping section.”

I’ve followed the usual WC override steps–copying form-login.php from woocommerce/templates/checkout/ to mytheme/woocommerce/checkout and then making the changes. The changes do not occur.

After considerable time troubleshooting, I’ve realized that you’ve got the same phrase hard-coded in the plugin in form-checkout.php. How can I safely change the plugin for my desired phrasing?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

You can consider to use the plugin’s translation file to change the text:

    – install Poedit
    – open the /wp-content/plugins/wp-multi-step-checkout/languages/wp-multi-step-checkout.pot (this is the translation template) with Poedit
    – change the translation for the “If you have shopped with us before …” text to what you want
    – save the translation as wp-multi-step-checkout-en_US.po (this is for the English US locale).
    – copy the wp-multi-step-checkout-en_US.po and the automatically generated wp-multi-step-checkout-en_US.mo to the /wp-content/plugins/wp-multi-step-checkout/languages/ folder.

Alternatively, there are plugins, like Loco Translate, that will help you translate a plugin. Here is a small tutorial how to translate a plugin.

When updating the plugin in the future, your translation changes will not be overwritten.
