• Please help urgent: I went into the general settings tab to change the wordpress address and the site address from

    http://sitename.com to http://www.sitename.com

    for both the options (wp address and the site address.)

    Now the redirections on my website log me out – and ask me to log back in.

    The reason I did this was because google webmasters ask for a sitemap such that the address of the sitemap is http://WWW.sitename.com/sitemap.xml – so that I had to have the www in front of it. My posts and everything were not showing up on google possibly because of this, so I had to change and now I find myself in this quandry.

    PLEASE HELP urgently – if someone knows I shouldnt be doing this – I do not know what else might be going wrong, FOR ALMOST 3 MONTHS, Ive used http://sitename.com everywhere, posting on forums on my tweet widgets (which NOW show the tweets made to be 0!) …

    Is this something I should do – it looks more appropriate to have the www, besides the sitemap address cannot be filled in google webmasters if I dont have the www.

    Help required, PLEASE

  • See the following (extracted from the Codex entry on moving wordpress)

    wp-login.php can be used to (re-)set the URIs (Insert the following lines after require( dirname(__FILE__) . '/wp-load.php' );

    update_option('siteurl', 'http://your.domain.name/the/path' );
    update_option('home', 'http://your.domain.name/the/path' );

    Setting the path back to where it should be.

    Remove the lines after you’ve loaded the page.
