catlink not working in widget

Thanks for the app, very useful. I’m using the widget to list posts in my footer, however, the catlinks setting doesn’t seem to work. When I use the shortcode on a page with the catlinks=yes setting it works perfectly. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong? Thanks!
