I am also having this problem and would like to know if there is a fix.
Having the same, the caption code shows up in the post list without the image tag, when viewing the full post its ok i just see the image and caption, something to do with settings? or is it the code?

i am using the limit posts plug in, it seems whenever it limits posts the caption tag shows up, any ideas?

I have the same problem, with simply-news theme. See for example :

[caption][/caption] tags shows up only in posts of in archive and search results.
Do anyone know how to remove these tags from posts?

Disabling the Digg This plugin, I was able to get rid of the bug.
It’s probably some plugin you are using. Try disabling all of them and see if the bug persists.
I had the same issue but not on all posts and I couldn’t exactly tell what was triggering the bug.
I’m using the Hybrid 0.6 Theme and WordPress 2.8.3 but the issue presented itself with any theme.
I’ve now deleted the Digg This plugin. Solved for me.
