Hi, I have done several WP install – this one is giving me fits.

When I go to mysite.com/wp-admin/install.php – I get nothing at all.

I placed a file on the server in that location and O can view it… so that rules out a bunch of the obvious.

Double-checked the usernames and dbase settings… no luck.

    Now what?

  • Having the same or similar problem!
Installing v.2.8.4, when I go to mysite.com/wp-admin/install.php i get this message:
    ————
    Can’t select database
We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the dbo295xxxxxx database.

    Are you sure it exists?
Does the user dbo295xxxxxx have permission to use the dbo295xxxxxx database?
On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_dbo295xxxxxx. Could that be the problem?
    ———
I contacted the host (www.1and1.es), who checked the database: “connecting data is correct, server is working, no problems”, he said… “problem lies in WordPress”, he said

There are plenty of similar reclamations in the web about this. Time to scale up the problem to experts? Somebody helps?

    the wp-config.php doesnt lie.

at this service provider (www.1and1.es), username and dataname are the same (dbo295xxxxxx); I tried out all possible combinations prefixing dbo295xxxxxx_dbo295xxxxxx, also prefixing Wp_dbo295xxxxxx to all the data / only passw. and dataname, … all trials had no positive result 🙁

    Thanks for your help!

I got the email of the install script, telling me the name name admin and the password generated during the installation. But I am not able to enter them, as the login.php does not work (“Error establishing a database connection”)
