Can't read or write! Please help

The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2015/01.
I know I need to change my reading/writing privilages but I don’t know how. I have read the codex but I am still very confused. Where do I go to actually change my permissions?
If somone can please run me through the steps of changing my read/write/execute.

Usually you can do that by using FTP to connect to your server – but the best place to get the best answer is your hosting – as they know how their servers are set up.

My hosting is through my companies reliable hosting server.
What do you mean by using the FTP to connect?
How can I change it by using an FTP?

Here is what i am confused about. What exactly do I need to change the permissions of?
Every wordpress file to 755?
or can I change the public_html file to 755?
Or a different file?
Once again I have read the codex and it didn’t help. I only post here if I cannot find a problem after reading as many resources as possible.

It seems that All of my files are currently on 755.
The error is also saying something about the parent directory.
I can’t upload any pictures using wordpress.

I solved it.
This is the info I needed “the permissions on the wp-content.php directory to 766 or 777 and try it”

I’m not an expert by a very long shot, but it’s not good (security wise) to leave permissions at 777 – so see if changing them back to 755 works now too.
