Can't edit or delete co-author

The person who set up our site apparently created both a user account for me and also a Guest Author account for me. I am trying to delete the Guest Author. When I click Delete, it offers me the chance to “Reassign to another co-author”
However, nothing I type in that field results in ANY users appearing. It always says No Matches Found, no matter what I type.
Also, when I try to make any edits in my Guest Author listing, it comes back and says “Guest authors cannot be created with the same user_login value as a user. Try creating a profile from the user on the Manage Users listing instead.”
Perhaps the guest author unique slug is messed up? Can you help?
