    Hello,
I have installed WP in its own directory successfully both with and without url change earlier without any problem.
Today I tried to do the same with a duplicator package but could not make it work at all. All of you probably know it, but just to avoid a further question – the Duplicator plugin creates a zip archive of the WP installation along with an installation script. Uploading the archive and running the installer.php recreates a fully functional site in any directory/sub-directory. It works beautifully and I have done it many times without any problem.
But using this method I had never tried to run WordPress from a directory other than the installation directory. Now, when I install in the root dir or in a subdirectory everything works fine, but when move the installed files to a new directory under the root (public_html) and do the changes in the index.php file/general setting of the wordpress site, the site breaks badly.
The same thing happens if I install into the target directory and copy the index.php and htaccess files and modify these as detailed in the “giving WP its own directory”.
One major difference with my website now is that it has SSL. Could this cause any problem?
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Nikhil

  • Hey @srujanika,

This can sometimes be a setup constraint by your hosting provider. You might want to double-check with them. If it is indeed locked down by the host then you will need to perform the /root-directory/sub-directory setup.

    Hope that helps~

Thanks Cory – I had done such installation (moving to a different directory from root) earlier on this server without any problem. I will check with them in case they have changed anything now.

Sounds good! Thxs for the update.
