• I have double checked all of my config info…the username, password, and hostsite are ALL CORRECT! Yet, when I try to install I get this error:

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at vwcfp01.db.6947987.hostedresource.com. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

Anyone else have this happen and know how to fix it? I am using GoDaddy as my host. I have hosted tons of blogs with them, but I tried 3 last night that all gave me this message. I have contacted them, but no real answer.

UPDATE: I even tried using an older version of WP and it still won’t work!

Sounds like you don’t have the correct information in your configuration file.

I’ve tried to create sites with GoDaddy manually and could never get them to work. I contacted them and they said it was a WordPress error and it wasn’t. They were worthless and the technical people have no idea what they are doing. Did you create the WordPress site using the 1-click installer? I have had success doing that.

I have double checked my information and triple checked it. I don’t know what else to try, but I do know that GoDaddy’s service stinks when it comes to figuring this stuff out.

I have not tried with the one-click installer because I am installing into a sub-folder not the root. I have done this at least 20 times before with no issues, and those sites are up and running just fine.

That is why I tried the older version because this is the first ones I had tried with the latest update.

I am right in only having to change the username, database name, password and hostsite right? That is all I have ever changed in the past.

    Thanks for your help!

The connections in wp-config form the connection string, so basically that is all you need to worry about at installation.

If I have connection problems to Mysql I generally run phpmyadmin from the control panel and connect to the db. Make sure the database has the correct name (silly but it has caught me out before) and then check the DB name, and the login details. If you can connect with the right information through the control panel then you have proved the DB connection and WP should connect as well.

Thanks! I am still working on it!

@keyconcepts Are you still having issues? If you feel comfortable please post the domain that you are having issues with so we may take a look into this matter with you. Also you can use our easy click install for WordPress and install it to a sub folder instead of the root. ^Colby

i am also hosted by word daddy. they have a known install issue with the install for 3.1.2. they told me they are working on it.
