From the preview mode, you should see a button to activate the theme. I think it will appear in the upper right corner.
Thank you so very much. I had been to the “preview” page before and never saw the button… guess I can blame it on old age…in my 7th decade and going a little blind.

I too am having the same problem. And my eyesight should be fine. O_o
Basically it loads a fullscreen preview of the site, rather than in a box with the activate button on the top right corner, like I see in tutorial videos on some blogs.
It is really confusing.
I’ve tried it in Safari, Firefox, Camino, all giving the same result. I have not tried Internet Explorer on windows. Do I have to…?
I had basically the same problem. I would go to “Design” pick out a different theme, click on “activate” from the black popup box and it would show that the “New theme activated” and even show the page thumbnail but when I click on “New theme activated – Visit Site” it just brought me back to my old “Default” theme. “””Would Not Switch”””
So in reading this forum I started deactivating my plugins one at a time and tried changin themes again. Would not work. I could not find a plugin (Have about 20) that was the culprit
Finally I deactivated them ALL. Then Reactivated them all, low and behold the “change theme option ” started working again.??
I do not know what was going on but it worked for me.

“I FOUND THE CULPRIT”
It was the plugin “Theme Test Drive”
For what it is worth, That was My problem plugin.
