It’s because Sidebar Widget’s are pre-activated and in the software core already. You just need to go to the “Widgets” tab in the presentation menu (It will be to the right of the Theme Editor tab)
OK I see it there and have added stuff but it does not show up on my site. I had uploaded the widgets to my plugin dir, so deleted it and I can still see the widgets (thats cool). Switched themes around a bit, still not showing up.
I will look into editing the functions.php like it said to in the readme of the sidebar widgets package I downloaded.

I am having exactly the same problem as far as not showing sidebar widget. I removed the old widget directory from plugins directory as you advised and this didn’t solve the problem.
I can access my presentation/widget preferences page but the problem there is I cant move objects in sidebar so everything is at it it.
Sidebar Widget isn’t functional as its order and widgets doesn’t show at all on my blog.
I hope this will be resolved soon …

Widgets are built into 2.2, you don’t need to use a plugin or anything else.
I know they are build into ver. 2.2 and I am NOT using sidebar widget plugin as I have removed it from my plugin directory.
The problem is with the build in sidebar widget as with previous WP version every thing worked ok and now it doesn’t.
I cant move objects in my sidebar and the widgets doesn’t show up at all. Thats my problem.
I’m using wordpress 2.2, theme neo sapien, i get the three sidebars, but can’t move anything in or out. pls help?

1. Disable all your plugins. See if that solves it.
2. Reenable the plugins one by one until you figure out which one is interfering.

I am using tiga theme. I disabled all plugins and they still dont work. This is driving me CRAZY. I did some alterations to header.php and wonder if thats it. Any help would be greatly appreciated…
my main problem was with the tiga theme as well. Switched to a different theme, but if you search for tiga you will find some posts where people have modified the functions.php and got tiga to work.
