Can you remove the Default post category function?

You know when you post, WP automatically checks your Default post category? I have a lot of categories, and I keep forgetting to uncheck the default post. The type of post I do is such that I rarely post to the same category, and there’s no one category that I post to most often, thus no need for a “default” category. Is there something I can do to keep WP from checking the Default post category everytime? I just want to manually check the categories when I post, I don’t need something automatically checked, because I always forget to uncheck it, and have to do it later on, which is kind of a hassle for me.
