I’m sorry but you can’t. It is not the general policy to edit or delete forum posts. When a post is made and people contribute answers to an issue, that then becomes part of the community resource for others to benefit from. Editing or deleting posts removes this added value.
As it stands, your closed topic does still have value in terms of it’s content and in the reason that it was closed.
Got it. If you unwittingly break the rules you aren’t able to edit your post to correct the error or remove the post. Instead, you get to stick around and enjoy the shame that comes with it. Roger that. Excellent policy.
I sincerely appreciate the help I received, and while I’ve always admired the noble spirit of WordPress, there’s always been a smugness from the company that I think is manifest in exactly this type of policy. I love that everyone is so committed, but these types of policies aren’t very consumer friendly and strike everyday folks as arrogant.
I’m so sorry if it comes across that way. We really do not have any intention of trying to embarrass anyone. But, other the other hand, we have this forum welcome page that outlines the forum rules – including the bit about not mentioning payments. We’ve stickied a link to it at the top of every forum but people still don’t read it. So topics like your recent one act as an extra warning to people.
If it bothers you that much, abandon your current forum account and create a new one with a different email address. We won’t mind and we certainly won’t tell. 😉
I will abandon altogether. I just found out you don’t allow people to delete their accounts here, nor delete their Gravatar accounts. No offense to you personally, but to me that kind of practice is the the worst type of Silicon Valley arrogance.
