Bug fix needed on mysql DB missing!!!!
-
Now and then ipage screws up and the mysql server goes down…and guess what!
Twenty ten shows an install page!!!! for all the bloody world to see!!

Talk to iPage.
Seriously, if your DB server goes down, YES, WordPress says ‘hey, there’s no database here, you must want to install!’
Also don’t post in all caps again. It’s shouting and is rude.
are you having a laugh?
servers go down…software needs to be able to cope and this is a massive bug…anyway i just deleted the wp-admin/install.php file so it wont happen again…to me…what a silly bug tho! a first year comp/sci student would have picked that up in basic testing…..very surprised
HENCE THE SHOUTING! which i will do if i naffing well want to considering 4 years of blogging could have been lost because of a stupid mistake.
and it’s not rude to shout but it is maybe to post such a pointless and unhelpful answer as you haveI’m not having a laugh at all. I’m serious. Get iPage and kick them until they listen, because no one but them are screwing with you.
If the databse you’re using is down, WordPress, which relies on that database is also down. That’s how it works.
HENCE THE SHOUTING! which i will do if i naffing well want to considering 4 years of blogging could have been lost because of a stupid mistake.
And you will find yourself flagged as a spammer if you cannot be polite and reasonable.
1) Your blog posts live on the database. If the DB goes away and you install a new one, well, your posts are still lost, but that wasn’t affected by a new-install.
2) No one but you, who has access to both the DB server and the ID/passwords to that server, has access to install. Seriously, it’s secure.
3) Your problem isn’t that WordPress doesn’t fail elegantly, your problem is your host sucks. If they can’t keep your site up, you need to take your posts and your money and walk. Cause that’s not acceptable to me. You’re paying them for uptime, they’re not providing.
It’s not a bug, my post was actually useful. You need to shout at the people who can fix this, not the nice volunteer.
ETA – As someone reminded me, if the DB goes away, WordPress SHOULD just say ‘Halp! Cannot connect!’ If you’re getting the install screen, then your wp-config.php may also be nuked, which REALLY is the server being hosed and not WordPress, which can’t delete that file anyway.
oh do be quiet your talking rubbish, utter rubbish and you quite obviously know nothing about software…so keep your mouth tightly closed eh and leave it to people who know what there talking about….
if something fails the last thing you want is the INSTALL screen showing???? how stupid are you? and how stupid are the people who test wordpress
if the DB goes away maybe JUST maybe the software could check to see if there is already wordpress installed? and just maybe instead of leaving my blog WIDE OPEN to hacking and attack it could post up a message…erm saying oh i dunno?
CANNOT CONNECT WITH DB?
what do you think?
PMSL! idiot software, idiot forum with idiot..whatever you think you are.flag away…as if i give a hoot what you think
now unless you have something actually helpful to say?
no
i thought notthe forums are run and rely on volunteers. ipsentu helps out a lot of the forums.
Please do not be so rude and dis-courteous to anyone on the forums, especially to a Moderator.
