• A friend of mine runs a brick and mortar bookstore. The bookstore’s current site uses Drupal and Ubercart, and my friend wants a redesign in WordPress. Currently, a search field allows users to enter any book, including books not currently in stock at the store, and order the book for pick up at the store. Clearly the search feature is tapping into a database larger than the local store’s inventory.

I’m still learning, so I’m asking those more experienced at this than me: will the migration of data from Ubercart to wooCommerce pull this database in? What additional steps are likely needed to achieve the same result in a WordPress design? Thanks!

  • For that type of search they’re probably using a script that is provided by the company that maintains the database. Without seeing the existing site its hard to say. You would need to find out what service it is that they are using for that function, and then contact that company. Most likely it would be able to work with WordPress.
