  • I had a blogspot blog for a while. I left it for WordPress. It wasn’t horrible it just wasn’t as capable. It was kind of the difference between buying a computer or building a computer. Build is more work and has the opportunity for screw up but you can make it do whatever you want, look however you want, the sky is the limit. The purchased computer is a little more expensive, roughly equal in power but you get what you get. It’s only so customizable.
I had trouble with WordPress when I first tried, in fact I had someone else install it because I couldn’t get it to run. Then I set up a second blog and did it myself. The last couple days I have been able to help a friend with his. I enjoy poking the template, adding the feeds I want, trying to find that next cool plugin.
Honestly my first reactions were not different from the new user above but I’m really happy I made the switch.

Well, I expected that sooner or later someone would get rude and accuse me of whining. Something else I’ve always liked about B2 is that the people on their support forum are courteous, helpful and supportive.

I switched from Blogspot years ago for exactly some of the reasons you mentioned. So far WordPress seems closer to Blogger than B2, just more complicated. B2 is fully customizable. It lets you do your own thing not just “plugin” “widgets” and choose from existing themes.

But never mind. Obviously WordPress is not for me. I know a lot of people use it and like it. I’ll keep reading and experimenting a little more to give it a fair chance and see if something clicks but I think I should look for something else or maybe just wait until my host finally gets around to updating MySQL, which, according to what I’ve been reading, is mostly likely the problem with B2.

I actually disagree with this. I’ve used Blogspot, MT, pMachine, Expression Engine, Pivot, Joomla and a couple of others that you’ve probably never heard of. Thus far, WordPress is the easiest and simplest one I’ve used. And *fully* costomizable? I have yet to find something that is as customizable as WordPress. You can do almost *anything* with it. And it truly is easy to learn – I downloaded and installed WordPress for the first time in March of this year. By mid-May I had released my first theme.

If you have your own design that you like, you can *easily* use it in WordPress – there’s almost nothing to it. If it helps, you can read my post on the subject (I put it up recently) on my site. (just click on my name.)

And yes, you can import your old Blogger posts.

    As for this:

Well, I expected that sooner or later someone would get rude and accuse me of whining.

To be truly honest, you were a little bit. You came into a thread and said you hated it, yet admitted you’d just started with it. In this last post you’ve even admitted you are *now* going to give it a chance (which means you hadn’t even done so yet before you decided to complain about it). It honestly sounds like you’ve already decided against it – and admittedly without even opening it up and really seeing what it can do – which does sound a little like whining (apologies for that, but it does.)

As for the “rudeness” comment, I saw “bluntness”. Some people take that as rudeness, others take it as constructive criticism. I guess it’s how you see it. But it doesn’t help that you make general comments about your troubles and no specifics so that you can gain help – it *does* make you look like you posted just to complain – and this is a *support* forum – not a *vent* forum.

But in the end, you really should give it a try before you shoot it down. You obviously *wanted* to, or you never would have installed it in the first place, right? 🙂
