• For a job I was suppose to take over control of a blog that was on another hosting site. So the previous controller of the blog sent me a back up folder and then released the blog’s address from hostmonster, so I could start hosting it on bluehost, many adventures later I get the new WordPress blog up and I’m ready to use the data the other guy sent me. The only problem is that the blank blog wants a single file, whereas he gave me a ton of files (most of which are php), each corresponding to a small detail of the blog. The new blank I have up doesn’t seem to like taking a folder or an individual file, and I’ve tried contacting the the old controller several times to see if he has anything else, but he says he doesn’t. So I’m currently lost, any ideas worth trying?

The database or an XML file would be needed to import the old content…

His former host may still have a backup of the database. Even if he is no longer using them, it would probably be a good idea to check that.

On the new install, generally the things you would have to do is:

    1) Get the new, basic install of WordPress up and running.
    2) Replace the wp-content folder with the wp-content folder from the backup you were provided.
    3) Import the database backup into the newly created database.

Of course, you would still need that database though.
