• Hello everyone.

I have recently written my first blog post and uploaded to my website. After searching on google I found the post in the search results.

However, when you click on the link in google and reach the page, it says – “Oops! That page can’t be found. It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try a search?”

I have now realised that google must have indexed the page with the original post title and I changed the post title. Should I have just waited before publishing or is there anything else I could have done?

Anyone putting in the relevant search term is going to be taken to a page and the content is no longer there (although it is easy to find on the site but the meta title is now different)

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi there,

When changing the title your probably also changed the posts slug?

If that’s the case you can install a plugin such as Redirection. Add the old URL (indexed by Google)in the plugins settings and point it to your new URL. That way your visitors get the right page and gradually Google will start referring to your new URL.

    Hello Eva

Thank you so much for your reply. I just checked the post slug in my wordpress admin area and it is under the post name that I changed to but the url when you reach the page via google is still the original post name.

I don’t actually remember changing or even inputting a post ‘slug’ to be honest. I will try what you have suggested and let you know how I get on if you don’t mind.

Thanks and have a nice weekend.

    Gordon
