We have used this plugin many times with (almost) no issue.
We are moving the dev site (in a sub folder) to the root. The root site (fortunately) was moved to a temporary backup folder.

This time it gave me a blank white screen when I went to installer.php. I tried again, carefully disabling Wordfence on both sites.

Now I get a 404 error. I can literally see the file in cpanel. It’s there. But it won’t run.

This is a server we’ve used it on many times before without an issue. Does anyone have any idea what is happening?

  • Hey @starhorsepax2

Thanks for the feedback! There are a few items in the FAQ that may provide a solution to this issue, this one may get you going.

        – The installer is showing blank/white, 403, 404 or a 500 error?

Let me know if this helps~

    Thanks it did.

I do think part of the confusion was if I move all those hidden .htaccess and such files, then the installer thinks the site is moving to a different PHP version.

Default server environment is 5.6 but we can control the domain name PHP version, and that was set to 7 something. Apparently when I move all the . files whatever is controlling it fails to take that into account. The site itself hasn’t moved, its just going from the dev subfolder to the root. So PHP itself shouldn’t be thinking its changing.

    Thanks for the update!

If installing to an empty directory the installer only lays down a .htaccess file in step 4 of the installer. This is to keep the installer process clean from any .htaccess issues. If you run into issues in the future that require them to be there ahead of time you may FTP them up along with the installer. Not sure if this is your case if this applies in this scenario but just an FYI.

    Cheers~
