• It’s possible that I may be missing something really obvious, but of the 10 or so wordpress migrations I’ve ever done, I can’t recall once where the images/media library came over gracefully. I download the contents of my /wp-content/uploads folder and load it in the right place on the new site and do the xml import, but all images are still broken. Seems like re-linking every post is a lot of work for a blog with many content-rich posts.

Even then it seems the only way to get your images back into the library is by uploading one at a time. Hopefully there’s something I’m just doing wrong and will learn from in this post. Suggestions very appreciated.

    Thanks

The best way to do it is NOT copy the images over, but have both sites running at once, and tell WP to import posts with the images.

If you can’t do that, copy the files over and BEFORE you import the XML, search/replace for the OLD url and replce with the new one 🙂
