Which is why skippy’s plugin rocks. It caches them locally and allows setting local avatars (i.e. blog specific).

Gravatar is a poor solution for some users. Personally I rather have the avatars stored locally instead of my visitors having to sign up for ANOTHER service. I do remember there being a plugin for 1.5 that had avatars that users could pick but not upload. I found it on one of the wordpress plugin sites that are in the EXTEND link. Not sure if it works for 2.0 though.
I am trying to build one where users can submit there own avatar (limited in size) and use that one. Its my first plugin and I am using it as a learning experience too.
The Gravatar plugin at the link I posted allows local Gravatars, i.e. avatars uploaded to your site and just for your site. It makes a new tab for them in the Users area of the admin area.
Is there a way to let people have avatars without having to sign up to my blog? Like have a list of avatars to choose from when commenting..
Possible? Totally. Pretty much anything is possible with WP. 😉
Is there a plugin out there currently that allows you to do that? Not that I’ve seen.
The comvatar plugin does this. You can add own avatars or use gravatars or favatars (all up to the admin).
Only guests get a avatar randomly selected. They cannot choose one themselves unfortunaly

I am using Gravatars.
My subscribers does not have the Gravatars tabs and therefore cannot choose there own Gravatar. Anybody knows how I could let my user upload/use their own Avatar?
I believe you can do that with Skippy’s version of the Gravatar plugin, scroll up for the link.

But regular users don’t have the Gravatar tab in there profile.

That works.. I kinda trashed the Gravatar plugin cuz it’s not really all that great. It’s okay.. but like you, it wasn’t what I was looking for. And thanks for posting the link!
