• Hi,
it’s a couple of versions of WP that I’m unable to run automatic updates:

    • When trying to update plugins or themes, the process starts, and the screen freezes saying “Plugin XXX updating…”. If I wait enough time, the plugins are updated even if the page doesn’t return any feedback
    • When I try to upgrade the WP version, the message “Downloading WordPress version XXX….” appears, then the update script freezes, and nothing happens.

Apache runs under the same user that owns the script, and every file and folder have the correct user/group.
I cannot understand what is preventing WP updates, and was wondering if someone has some idea about the reason, or already solved the problem.
The only topic that I found on this forum dates back 5 years…

    Thanks,
    S.

Which version are you updating from?

    Hi,
I don’t remember this last update, I have 4.1 now, but it is happening since 2 or 3 updates, and on every WP installation I have on the same server.
I suppose it is a matter of server configuration, but since the http process is running as the same user that owns the directories (using The Apache 2 ITK MPM) I really cannot understand where the problem is.
    Thanks,
    S.

Ok let’s try to upgrade WordPress manually first: https://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended

Don’t worry, it’s not a complicated process, the guide is just very very detailed.

Once that’s done, try updating one of the plugins to see if there’s any change.
