authors as category

My client has set up wordpress on his server to have his blogs from another site and blogs from other related people show up on one blog, mainly for an RSS feed. I want to know if it’s possible to place each posts in its according categories AND include it in another category – the category being the author of the post. Although, the people won’t be setting their posts up like that, they will just be blogging a post under news or something similar. I want to know if its possible to somehow extract the authors name and place it in the category (which would be the exact same (ie. the author will be J. Smith, as will the category) This seems like a long shot but it’s definitely worth the ask.
