It varies according to the plugin.
That I’ve noticed. I’ve found both flash and html5. I haven’t been able to get the html5 ones to work the way I want, though, on the wordpress based site I’m working on..
Is there any highly configurable html5 audio player plugin you would recommend?
Thanks,
Aino
Sorry – not one that I can recall off the top of my head.
I use powerpress by blubrry for my podcasting.
It may be a bit much for what you need, as its a full podcasting thing, and not just a player, but the player works on everything (and you have options on the player)
Here’s the thing about html5 players. You really need them to be configured properly… html5 players work in all modern browsers, BUT… not all media does. mp3 doesn’t work on some of the browsers, ogg on others, etc. You need to have 2 different versions of each track to be successful.
The powerpress plugin (it’s in the plugin area, and free) only needs mp3. It’ll serve up html5, or flash, etc. as appropriate per browser.
You can check out my personal blog (rvoodoo.com) if you like to see it in action. depending if I’m on my phone, pc, etc, I get html5 or flash, but the mp3 always works.
Thank you for very insightful answer. I will look into the plugin you’re using.
Do you know a good online resource for information about different audio file types and audio players, and challenges with them on different devices, etc.? I’ve been trying to find information but haven’t found a good resource for this kind of things yet.
Thank you.
