Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
Can you post a link to a page demonstrating this problem?
Here’s a post example. I’m also using a Child Theme of TwentyEleven. I’ll try those suggestions.

Can we see the site using the original Twenty Eleven theme with all plugins deactivated?
Just did that. Same results. Going into phpmyadmin now.
Your pdf attachment opens fine in Twenty Eleven.
I can’t see it. Restarted Firefox. Curious!
Whoa! I CAN see it in Safari. Not good. 🙁
Apparently everything displays properly in Safari and not Firefox.AND it works on another computer in Firefox. Looks specific to my computer.
Now that’s a whole other issue.
It does sound like it’s specific to your machine as I use Firefox by default and the attachment link worked without any problems. Try disabling all extensions in Firefox.
AND THE ANSWER IS…. Setting the Firefox Preferences to Adobe Acrobat Reader. I had installed a new Acrobat Reader with CS4 and it had to be manually re-set in Firefox.
Thanks for your assistance.
