• I’ve redesigned my site with a new theme and now links to attachments aren’t opening.

For example in this post: http://idlehandsawake.com/printable-valentines-day-gift-tags/, when you click the “download” button towards the bottom it used to take you to a new page with a PDF.

But now it seems to be trying to open some sort of lightbox gallery and just freezes and crashes my browser. Could this be a theme thing? Are there any workarounds?

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

I don’t see any download button there, all pictures just open in lightbox normally.
If some issue with this on your side, its probably related to your gallery/image plugin.

The “download” button is an image link that I made. It says “click to download” and it used to open a new tab with a PDF file of the printable. I don’t want it to open in lightbox. Do you have more info?

I’ve updated this post: http://idlehandsawake.com/printable-valentines-day-gift-tags/ so you can see what the link is supposed to do. If you scroll towards the bottom there is a text link that says “Eye Heart U” PDF Download. When you click it, it goes to a new tab with the PDF.

Before I installed Genesis and a child theme, this worked just fine as an image link. I never changed any gallery or image settings. I use WP Custom Gallery Links plugin but I’ve been using that since way before.

Now, however, the image link opens to a lightbox instead of a new tab. I imagine it’s freezing and crashing because it can’t find an image to populate the lightbox, since the url actually goes to a PDF file. You can see what it’s doing on this post: http://idlehandsawake.com/printable-morse-code-message-for-your-sweetheart/

I am trying to figure out if this is something I can adjust, or if it’s a problem with the theme.

So simple for testing just change your theme for default WordPress theme to see if problem still exist that you know if its related to plugin or theme.
