You can use the API key on any number of blogs.
So, if it’s saying that is has a communication problem, then perhaps it’s actually having a communication problem. 😉
The plugin attempts to make http connections to rest.akismet.com. If it can’t do that, you’ll get that message.
Note that Akismet is only free for personal blogs. If it’s a commercial use, then Akismet has a price tag based on the number of requests made to the service. See here: http://akismet.com/personal/

Still no good… Connection cannot be made to askimet. Please check server configuration.
Ive looked but cant see what would be stopping the connection.
Any ideas?

I suggest you compare the server for the blog which is working with server for the one that isn’t working. The difference will likely provide a clue as to what is causing the problem.

The server on which it IS working, is a virtual server on my own computer, through MAMP…
