archive.php and category.php

    When archive.php and category.php do not exist, what is being used?? I mean I still get titles like “Archive” even though NONE of the template files have these titles. Where does WordPress get this stuff anyway?

    I am curious since WP does not use the archive.php or category.php even when they exist.

    Using 2.0.4.
