I have created an API key with Google.
I have created one which supports the Google Maps Embed API, but the Google Static Maps API doesn’t exist in my list on the Google site.

The map doesn’t show, just the text “Click to open a larger map”
But when I click it, it works.

    What is going on here?

I’ve double checked on several accounts, and the Google Static Maps API is on the list – https://postimg.org/image/cmwttmvv3/
Without it, the map won’t work. Apart from it being a temporary Google issue I don’t have an idea 🙁

As a short-term fix – remove the API key from your settings.

I honestly think that 99% of the problems people are having with the Google API is nothing to do with this Plugin. It’s Google API that is at fault.
I’ve tried a number of maps and embedding code and the API simply fails, every time!
Leaving it out cures the problem.

Thank you for those kind words bloohair! We really do our best to make things easy but Google sometimes doesn’t play along nicely with their constant changes 🙁
