I’m having the same problem. I’ve followed the directions and there isn’t any API number at all. HELP!

Seriously, if you just READ THIS PAGE and actually understand it, then you would not have this problem.
I mean, what part of “When you sign up for a WordPress.com account we will email you an API key.” is unclear, exactly? This is not rocket surgery.
Your actual issue is that you keep looking at YOUR BLOG when you should instead SIGN UP ON WORDPRESS.COM, and look at your profile page ON THAT SITE to get the API key. Then you can plug it in on your own site.
