Apache server overloaded by wordpress and blocking site

Hi, can someone please help me how to solve my issue with wordpress:

My site (wordpress) is blocked by the host provider because it is causing too much load on thier apache server:

within a minute there are almost a hundred connections to attachments, which ties up the apache server. Most of which look like this:

Can someone please help me out? how to avoid this unknown connections?
