Amazon S3 extension obsolete?

    I read somewhere that Woo 2.0+ supports Amazon S3 file URLs in the file url field for a downloadable product. Do we still need the S3 extension? What does it add that isn’t already supported in the core woocommerce extension?

    If your files are protected in Amazon S3, you’ll need the extension to serve working links.

    When you say “protected in Amazon S3” you mean that the file permission is set to authenticated users only, correct? So while I can paste the full file URL in the file URL field in Woo, that only works if the file permission is set to everybody (which I wouldn’t want to do on paid product downloads) Do I understand you correctly?

    One other question – can we use cloudfront in conjunction with S3 for serving digital downloads, or is it S3 only?

    Yes, those links need to be generated in conjunction with their API and your API keys in order to work.
